Jose D. Rios began working with children with developmental disabilities as a teenager in 1977 and has made this a life-long endeavor. Immediately after attending grad school at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in what is now called the Behavior Analysis and Therapy program, Jose coordinated a three-year behavior parent training program in Santa Barbara, CA. From the early 1980’s through the early 1990’s, Jose provided in-home parent training and assessments to over 500 families. Jose also owned and administered group homes for children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities for 16 years. Jose received his BCBA in June of 2000. He has consulted for a number of adult day programs, children’s and adult residential facilities, and agencies that provide in-home behavior intervention. He also presents regularly at state-wide and national conferences. Jose has taught undergrad and grad ABA courses at California State University-Los Angeles and continues to be active and passionate about ABA and developmental disabilities.
Jose served on the board of CalABA and also served as CalABA president in 2003-2004. He has served on boards such as the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center, AAIDD Reg II, and in more recent years, as a board of director of the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA). In 2016, Jose co-founded LABA (Latino Association for Behavior Analysis).
