Dr. Dissanayake is the founding director of Australia's first research center dedicated to autism. She is the author of over 350 research articles which have garnered 10,000 citations, and has been recognized as one of nine Global Research Leaders in 2020. She was among the first 10 scholars inaugurated as Fellow of the International Society for Autism Research. She is currently a full professor, director and chair of the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre in the school of psychology and public health at La Trobe University.
